So, I am learning a new language. Spanish to be precise. I have no idea how long it’s going to take me to actually be fluent. I can understand a lot more than I can speak. And I can read a LOT more than I can listen and understand I took Spanish in high school. I learned a lot. I think I spent more time writing notes to the guy who sat next to me than I did listening to the teacher. This might explain the difference between the 3 years of knowledge I should have gained from those Spanish classes compared to the actual content I took away and remember now. It’s coming back though.
3 is my lucky number. So I figure I should be at least 3 languages. Right? So next on my list is French. But, back to the Spanish. Did you know that when you speak in a different language your voice sounds different? Not just because of the accent, but your actual voice? At least mine does. I am to the point where I am speaking full sentences/partial paragraphs and I catch myself stopping and thinking “What the….?” Because I SO do not sound like myself. And it makes me laugh. I’m trying to go for the ‘musical’ accent but sometimes, I don’t think I’m accomplishing it. Side note: I think that the word pillow in Spanish is one of the harder words to say fast. Almohada. Seriously. Who came up with that word? I like pillow SO much better.
